President's Message

Welcome to the Marshall Net Impact chapter!

While this school year will be like none other before, there is no better time to evaluate the kind of leaders we want to be and our place in the business world. I hope all current and future Marshall Net Impact (MNI) members will join me in looking at the 2020-2021 school year as an opportunity to focus on what matters and ensure a future where powerful and influential businesses see their success depends on social justice and public health, economic, educational, and environmental equity. While we may be sitting in front of computers in our homes instead of working together in-person, we have the greatest opportunity at this time to create change through Marshall's focus on Transformational Courage, Collaborative Ambition, Impactful Service, and Unwavering Integrity.

As the local affiliate of the national Net Impact organization, MNI aims to help shape thoughtful, mission-driven, business leaders as we help form the LA, US, and global economies. USC is brimming with resources, no matter the career track you want to get into or the cause you care about. Whether you are a Marshall graduate student looking for a career in social impact or want to learn to be an equitable leader in your future place of work, there is a place for you within the MNI community.

Over the course of the next school year, I look forward to working with our board to build upon the following three pillars:

1. Inform the way Marshall students approach traditional business activities by introducing an impact centered perspective that does not reduce profitability. We will partner with various Marshall programs and resources to provide trainings and networks to support impact career growth.

2. Encourage MNI member visibility by engaging with graduate Net Impact clubs at other schools, national Net Impact, and professional Net Impact chapters, attracting speakers from companies of all sizes and levels of prestige, and proving resources for those looking to grow their own social enterprises.

3. Be a voice for collaborative business as members of a greater community. We will work to unite Marshall clubs, the FT and PT MBA programs, and the MSSE program to create the thoughtful communities we want to see for years to come, inside and outside Marshall.

The Marshall experience gives you time to explore how you will be a leader moving forward, and we hope you join us in finding ways to make sure purpose and profit never have to be mutually exclusive. Please reach out to me at any time to discuss your interest in Marshall Net Impact or how impact and business can go hand-in-hand: Rebecca.pomerantz.2021@marshall.usc.edu.

Fight On!
